Clomipramine ( Anafranil ) is a psychotropic drug used as an antidepressant and anxiolytic . It belongs to the class of tricyclic antidepressants . It was developed in the 1960s by the Swiss manufacturer Geigy (now Novartis ) and has remained in use worldwide ever since. It acts as a reuptake inhibitor of certain neurotransmitters , serotonin and norepinephrine , in the central nervous system [ 3 ] .
